Going Against The Grain
Hi all,
On Saturday night I was short stacked in a tournament with 6 players left, I had $80,000. I get pocket 10s under the gun, blinds were 8,000 - 16,000. I called, next 2 players folded, the button went all in 150,000, SB (big stack 350,000) called, BB (110,000)called, . It came to me and I folded. I know was getting 4 to 1 on my money but I felt with 3 people all in I was probably behind or at best in a race against a bunch of over cards. Raiser KQ, SB AK,
BB 88, The flop was J 3 6, turn K, river was 7. It worked out good because SB knocked out 2 players and I moved up 2 spaces in the money. Next Hand I got KK and tripled up. I ended up 2nd because I folded pocket 10s. People say I should have pushed in that situation, but I just didn't want to risk my tournament on 10s, definitely Ks but not 10s. Even though it worked out was it the right decision at the time?

Four to one is your best bet. You left yourself very short stacked and if your next two hands were lousy you were going out anyway. You gambled on getting a better hand than 10's, lucky you. If 10's hold up you win the tournament.
Hi FD,
With 3 other people in if I lose the hand I'm 6th place, with 10s there is a good chance of that. If one of the other bigger stacks wins I move up 1 noch by laying a hand down. If the big stack wins, as he did I move up 2 noches. If the short stack would have one I,m still in 6th place. At that point being short stacked I had nothing gain, I could only end up 6th if I lose and possibly have a chance to move up if I muck.
